With the recording of their live DVD, Showtime, at the Pumpwerk in

Then as now, press and fans were unanimously impressed, and the band
established a reputation that remains unchallenged to this day: UFO are
unbeatable live! Now their sensational film document, Showtime, has been

Matthias Mineur writes in the liner notes about UFO's double live disc Showtime, "The line-up that worked on this CD in the summer of 2005 is the strongest the band has seen in a long time and has their critics' and colleagues' mouths watering: Phil Mogg (vocals), Pete Way (bass), Paul Raymond (keyboards), Vinnie Moore (guitar) and Jason Bonham (drums) - a team that stands for enthusiasm, compositional talent (as their current studio release "You Are Here" goes to prove) and technical accomplishment. Vinne Moore is a guitar hero in the classic sense. His intricate style, a successful mix of rock, progressive elements, blues and fusion, has impressed audiences since 1987 with his solo debut "Mind's Eye". Interestingly, it's been 27 years since the double live "Strangers In The Night" took the rock world by storm. So here we are again in 2005, Mogg, Way, Raymond, Moore and Bonham, a live CD featuring all the great tracks from "Strangers In The Night" plus the creme de la creme from the new "You Are Here" CD. who could ask for more... Showtime, UFO rocks!"

Moore Mogg/Way, the 1st classic release of 2004!, March 5, 2004
WOW! What a killer CD. Vinnie Moore is a phenominal guitarist.
This version of UFO is incredible and I can't wait for the tour!
But it's hard to look at this as UFO. Since UFO reformed with the "classic" lineup in 1995 for Walk on Water, mainstays Phil Mogg and Pete Way have held UFO together for a couple more studio albums in the late 90's, as well as some dou collaberations of Mogg/Way with guitarists George Bellas and Jeff Kollman. Every single one of these releases from UFO and Mogg/Way had there moments and are exceptional. Especially the Mogg/Way efforts. Each guitarist, particularly Kollman shine, and Chocolate Box (2nd Mogg/Way CD) was killer. Phil Mogg
even released a solo album (in all by name as $ign of 4 - Dancing with St. Peter), with Jeff Kollman on guitar just last year, and that proved to be the best of the bunch. Which brings me full circle to UFO's lastest released, You Are Here.
It is the strongest effort since UFO's 1995 comeback Walk on Water.
Vinnie Moore shines, and while it has it's UFO "classic" moments, it can be viewed as another Mogg/Way collaberation with Vinne Moore on guitar. I do not mean that as a put down to this release, or the band members. Songs like When Daylight Goes to Town, Mr. Freeze, Black Cold Coffee and Jello Man all have that UFO inspired guitar rock sound, and really I do not miss Schenker at all when I hear Vinnie Moore! There are some middle of the road rockers, like Call Me, Wild One, Give it Up, and The Spark That is Us. Very Mogg/Way sounding, but very excellent songs. There are even a few ballads in Sympathy, and Sleeping Away and Baby Blue. All in all great songs, and Vinnie Moore
is a Guitar God. Phil Mogg is in fine voice throughout the whole CD. Phil Mogg has a new rhythm partner in Jason Bonham on drums, who lays the beat down. And returning to the "classic" lineup is Paul Raymond on keys. This is truly a wonderful effort, and it is up there with Walk on Water. It is the guys best effort since that release. I really do hope to hear more from this lineup. The first enjoyable release of 2004, and a top contender for Top-10 of the year.

Vinnie Moore has set new standards in high performance guitar playing during his 20 year career. The highlights of his progressive compositions and phenomenal solos are included in this riveting CD package - Collection: The Shrapnel Years. Moore writes, "Seems like just yesterday I was on a plane to San Francisco to record my first record. One second I was a 20 year old kid from a small east coast town practicing guitar all day long, and then suddenly I am recording the soundtrack for a Pepsi TV ad, releasing a solo CD, winning awards in guitar magazines, and doing guitar seminars all over the world. It was just a magical time for me. At 21 I found myself in a position where I was an inspiration to others and this was simply a dream come true. Throughout my career, hearing that I have been a positive influence has remained one of my biggest rewards."

Vinnie Moore's Defying Gravity is a stunning instrumental barrage of outstanding musicianship and is rooted deeply in the progressive neo-classical style that generated a legion of loyal fans. Joined by former Journey drummer Steve Smith (Journey, Vital Information), bassist Dave LaRue (The Dregs) and keyboardist David Rosenthal (Rainbow). Moore reconnects with the music that established him as a guitar virtuoso.
Defying Gravity
by Vinnie Moore
Vinnie Moore certainly comes from the school that is labeled "guitar hero." This album is, at times, a prime example of that genre, featuring elements that get a bit noodley and over the top. However, Moore really does a nice spin on the genre. For one thing, even some of his neo-classical moments, which can get a bit stodgy in other hands, often have a fun-loving texture to them. He also wanders from that direction from time to time. Indeed, much of the latter half of the album is made up of fun pieces, many with a Latin influence. This breath of fresh air into the world of the guitar virtuoso should make this album appeal even to those of us who are not fans of the guitar player as god style of music.

Experience the brilliance of Vinnie Moore in concert on Vinnie Moore Live! as he teams with drummer Shane Gaalaas, keyboardist/guitarist Wayne Findlay and bass player Barry Sparks to deliver 12 songs culled from Moore's five studio albums. The CD was recorded in May of 1999 at "THE EDGE" in Palo Alto, California and is a high volume example of why Moore has a legion of followers all over the globe. He rips and shreds all over songs such as "The Thinking Machine", "Meltdown" and "Check It Out!" and his bandmates are literally on fire. Vinnie Moore Live! is certainly essential for die-hard fans of Moore, and if you're looking for an introduction to Vinnie's music, check out this release as a great starting point.

The Maze teams Vinnie Moore's guitar playing (flashy, fast, very jazzy yet still hard rock heavy metal) with the legendary keyboard talents of Tony MacAlpine. The instrumental tracks feature plenty of Moore's trademark mega-soloing (witness "Cryptic Dreams", "Eye Of The Beholder" and "King Of Kings") over contemporary progessive, and neoclassical grooves. The Maze also showcases the muscular bass guitar of Dave LaRue, and quality drumming courtesy of Shane Galass. In the tradition of "Mind's Eye", The Maze offers futher evidence that Vinnie Moore is here to shred.

-------------------------------
Written and produced by Vinnie Moore (with production assistance from engineer Paul Hammingson), Out Of Nowhere is the guitarist's fourth CD and continues the hard rock sound found on "Meltdown" This time Moore included two acoustic songs as well as riff-a-plenty tunage such as "Time Traveler", "770 Days" and "Losing Faith". Recorded at Kajem Studios just outside Philadelphia (with additional work done at Moore's new home studio), the album, once again all instrumental, travels the outer limits of song writing. From the crushing opening riff of "With The Flow", to the smooth, almost angelic styling of "Echoes", to the all-out jam of "Thunderball" and his twang thang, "VinMan's Brew", the album plays like an old friend. Propelled by a powerful compositional framework that is second to none, Out Of Nowhere is lifted by Moore's unique understanding of harmonic expression. A lively and emotive balance to his technical mastery, songs like "From Now On", "She's Only Sleeping", and "Winter Sun" showcase the player's sensitivity and skill. The results are inviting.

This release ontinues the neo-classical metal backdrop of his first album, while keeping shred guitar fans happy with cuts like "Prelude/Into The Future" and "Race With Destiny". Moore pays homage to the Beatles and George Harrison on Time Odyssey with a wang bar enhanced version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". The piece "April Sky" is classically influenced as Moore takes notes and inspiration from Bach's "Air On A G String" and "Piano Concerto No. 5 (Second Movement). Keyboard player Jorden Rudes also contributes in the songwriting department on "Prelude", "Into The Future" and "Message In A Dream".

Mind's Eye was Vinnie Moore's first instrumental solo record for the Shrapnel label, and is a true shredfest from top to bottom. When the CD was first released in 1986, it helped Moore to win Guitar Player Magazines readers poll Best New Talent award. Mind's Eye, which also features Tony MacAlpine on keyboards, the great Tommy Aldridge (Ozzy Osborne, Pat Travers, Whitesnake) on drums and Andy West (The Dregs) on bass, has Moore in his neo-classsical mode on tunes such as "In Control" and the standout track "Hero Without Honor".

May 2007 - Guitar Greats
Magna Carta records has released 'Guitar Greats' - Volume 1 and is now ready in stores
Relentless, over-driven fuzz guitar can add weight and glue to a tricky arrangement, especially one that fluctuates in terms of feel, time signature, and dynamics. Case in point: “Time Crunch”, from Jordan Rudess’ album Rhythm of Time. It’s precisely as the title suggests, a crunching of the numbers. The track could have been a mere series of exercises in manipulation of the basic quarter/eighth note tallies—were it not for Jordan’s overriding sense of melody. And you must check out the riveting solo by Vinnie Moore at 4:43: the Thinking Man’s flailing guitar! It’s unpredictable as all get out and pushes the composition along to its dramatic conclusion.

01 RUSH - 2112: Overture/The Temples Of Syrinx
Progressive Canadian power trio Rush are iconic rock legends with a career spanning well over thirty years. Consistently pushing musical boundaries, the group's epic 1976 album '2112' was something of musical masterpiece. Guitarman Alex Lifeson pushed his instrumental finesse to the very limit on the record's 20 minute-plus opener; a chilling, evocative piece that reflected on the concept of musical freedom of expression in an Orwellian '1984' type world. www.rush.com
02 MOTÖRHEAD - Limb From Limb Original Motörhead guitarslinger Fast 'Eddie' Clarke made his mark with the band on their first four records. The original Motörhead were creators of an aggressive, gutsy anti-social grind. Produced by Jimmy Miller (of Rolling Stones fame), the band's second album primarily focused on what was to be the classic 'head sound. A lethal combination of traditional Hard Rock, punk and charismatic, no-frills rock 'n' roll. www.imotorhead.com
03 RICHIE SAMBORA/BRUCE FOSTER - Southern Belle
A much sought after cut featuring Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora (recorded long before today's celebrity superstar found fame and fortune with the stadium-selling New Jersey rockers). As an 18-year-old guitar prodigy, Sambora was recognised by local bandleader Bruce Foster after an impromptu jam session and recruited into his group Shark Attack. Besides fulfilling guitar duties on 'Southern Belle' this extremely rare track also features Richie on lead vocals. www.bonjovi.com
04 DIAMOND HEAD - Am I Evil? (Live) A true bone-crunchingly classic riff from the hands of guitarist Brian Tatler. When Diamond Head hit the rock scene in the early 1980s they were hailed as the new Led Zeppelin. The seminal 'Am I Evil?' went on to be a true rock anthem in the ‘90s when rock giants Metallica took the bull by the horns and paid tribute to their musical heroes, frequently including it in their live set and laying it down on tape on their 1998 covers album 'Garage Inc.'. www.diamond-head.net
05 DIO - As Long As It's Not About Love Considered one of the best singers in rock, former Rainbow/Black Sabbath vocalist Ronnie James Dio has recorded with some of the greatest guitarmen in rock (Ritchie Blackmore and Toni Iommi to name but two). Craig Goldie is no exception. Having taken on the illustrious Heavy Metal gauntlet laid down by the former on early Dio releases, he reappeared with his mentor on the singer's 2000 conceptual masterpiece 'Magica', ably reaffirming his rock 'n' roll credentials. www.ronniejamesdio.com
06 SAVATAGE - Jesus Saves
Led by brothers Criss and Jon Oliva, Florida-based US progressive Metallers Savatage were very much in vogue in rock circles in the early 1990s (along with contemporaries such as Queensryche). Forging a unique brand of heavily operatic-inspired melodic hard rock the group reached their peak on 1991's 'Streets...', an epic, conceptual affair featuring the perfect marriage between intensive guitar and heart-wrenching vocals. www.savatage.com
07 PAUL KOSSOFF - Molten Gold (Live) An extremely talented musician whose life was duly cut short by a drug-related death, Free/Back Street Crawler guitar legend Paul Kossoff is up there with the likes of Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix. Showcasing a fluid, bluesy melodic lead he drove Free to superstardom in the early 1970s before forming his own full-time solo outfit featuring a number of his former bandmates as well as renowned Yes drummer Alan White. www.allrightnow.com
08 BERNIE MARSDEN - Love That Burns Something of a musical journeyman, former Whitesnake guitarist Bernie Marsden played heavily on the blues back in the early 1980s when he made a mark for himself in the early incarnation of David Coverdale's hard rockin' heroes, before turning his hand to fronting his own band, Alaska. In more recent years he's settled down, exploring a reflective rootsy blues-based direction with a batch of superb solo albums showcasing his own superior guitar-work. www.berniemarsden.com
09 JEFF HEALEY BAND - The Damage Is Done Canadian Jeff Healey has successfully bridged the dividing line between traditional blues purism and the commercial AOR appeal of stadium rock. Currently combining a classic jazz finesse with his trademark cutting style of hammering rhythm 'n' blues this particular master of the Fender Strat continues to bend the strings in differing directions, demonstrating an uncanny instrumental prowess. www.jeffhealey.com
10 JOHN NORUM - Solitude Swedish guitarist John Norum contributed a major part to the worldwide success of Scandinavian rockers Europe. Following his initial departure from the group in the late 1980s he worked with some of the biggest names in rock (Don Dokken and Glenn Hughes to name but a few). After numerous solo releases (including his latest offering 'Optimus') in 2004 he got back together with his ex bandmates for a reunion album and successful world tour. www.johnnorum.com
11 SANTANA - Gypsy/Grajonca The supreme master of instrumental Latino rock guitar, Mexican-born Carlos Santana has been doin' the business with his own band, Santana, since the heady days of the Woodstock Festival in the late 1960s. Effortlessly fusing melodic soul and sheer technical sass he continues to be an accomplished performer who has constantly refreshed himself by collaborating with some of the biggest names in contemporary rock and pop. www.santana.com
12 LESLIE WEST - Woman Long Islander Leslie West came to prominence as the lead guitarist of hard rock outfit Mountain in the early 1970s on the back of the classic 'Nantucket Sleighride' album. But the group failed to deliver commercially, leaving West to embark on a lengthy solo career (during which he hooked up with Cream bassist Jack Bruce). Most recent offerings have shown that his tuneful style and rock solid approach have barely changed over the years. www.mountaintheband.com
13 VINNIE MOORE
The Maze Establishing himself as one of the most important guitarmen to emerge from the virtuoso instrumentalist school of rock of the mid 1980s, Vinnie Moore has, to date, issued a number of hard hitting studio albums (as well as more recently treading the boards with Brit hard rock legends UFO). 1999's 'Maze' record (with its lengthy title track) showcased a return to the neo-classical roots that essentially defined this particular rock genre.www.vinniemoore.com
CD 2
01 RAINBOW - Stargazer Ex Deep Purple member Ritchie Blackmore once declared himself 'God'!. For those who caught his own band, Rainbow, live in the late 1970s (with Ronnie James Dio on vocals and Cozy Powell on drums) that claim was indisputable. Set against a fantastical backdrop of fire-breathing dragons and demonic wizards the epic 'Stargazer' (lifted from arguably the best ever hard rock record) featured the man in black at his peak. www.blackmoresnight.com
02 MAGNUM - Two Hearts Six-string songsmith Tony Clarkin provided (and still provides) the heart of the Magnum sound alongside long-time partner-in-rhyme Bob Catley. The home-grown Birmingham rockers first hit the scene in the mid-1970s but it wasn't until 1985 with the release of the benchmark 'On A Storyteller's Night' album that they finally hit the big time, both critically and commercially. The success of the album went a long way to landing the band a major label deal with Polydor Records. www.magnumonline.co.uk
03 GARY MOORE - Parisienne Walkways
The hallmark 'Parisienne Walkways' provided the melodic, hard-edged musical blueprint for Belfast-born Gary Moore's later blues career with its classic sustained note live solo section. It was originally recorded with fellow Irish rockers Phil Lynott on vocals/bass and Brian Downey on drums (for 1978's 'Back On The Streets'), so it was really a Thin Lizzy number minus second guitarman Scott Gorham. www.gary-moore.com
04 TEMPEST - Turn Around Only in existence between 1972 to 1974, Tempest released just two albums (1973's 'Tempest' and 1974's 'Living In Fear') but featured the cream of British prog/jazz rock. Individual band members Allan Holdsworth, Mick Clarke, Ollie Halsall, Jon Hiseman and Paul Williams would go on to influence the likes of Eighties Metal stringers like Eddie Van Halen and 'nu-metal' Prog rock superstars like Dream Theater. www.therealallanholdsworth.com
05 JETHRO TULL - Aqualung (Live) Despite always living in the shadow of Mick Abrahams (Tull's formative guitar henchman) Martin Barre performed on the group's definitive early album releases (1971's 'Aqualung' opus making the boldest statement). As the veteran group's lead man in partnership with flute wielding singer Ian Anderson, since 1969, his playing has provided Jethro Tull with the brazen energy to continually deliver on record and on stage for well over 30 years.
www.j-tull.com
06 COMPANY OF SNAKES - Lovehunter (Live) An integral part of the inaugural 'definitive' line-up of David Coverdale's Whitesnake, slide guitarman Micky Moody provided the backbone to the band's early blues sound. Re-uniting again with partner Bernie Marsden in 1999 as Company Of Snakes alongside vocalist Stefan Bergren, keyboardist Don Airey and drummer John Lingwood the ensuing live album 'Here They Go Again' set out to capture the blues spirit of the early classic 'snake sound. www.classicwhitesnake.com
07 PETER GREEN SPLINTER GROUP - Albatross Regarded by many as the greatest white blues guitarist ever, former Fleetwood Mac man Peter Green has had something of a turbulent career, riddled by drug abuse and paranoia. Initially hanging up his guitar in the mid 1970s (rumours abound that he worked as a hospital orderly, bartender and gravedigger during this time) he eventually got his head back together and came out of the closet in the early 1990s, resurrecting many of his early blues rock classics. www.fleetwoodmac.net
08 ULI JON ROTH - Burning Wheels Turning As part of the early incarnation of German Metal giants The Scorpions during the 1970s, lead guitarist Uli Jon Roth ultimately laid the groundwork for the neo-classical Metal sound. Upon leaving the group in 1978 the classically refined Roth began a rather erratic solo career that saw him expand his style in a more progressive direction with his own band Electric Sun, a psychedelic power trio fashioned around the image of his idol, Jimi Hendrix. www.ulijonroth.com
09 NAZARETH - Hair Of The Dog
Self-produced by Spanish-born guitarist Manny Charlton, Nazareth's fifth studio opus 'Hair Of The Dog' confirmed the braveheart Scots rockers as a major global attraction (chalking up double platinum sales in the US alone). A defining hard rock record, 'Hair Of The Dog' went on to influence legendary ‘80s rock icons Guns 'N' Roses who laid down their own version of the title track for a covers album entitled 'The Spaghetti Incident'. www.nazarethdirect.co.uk
10 MARTY FRIEDMAN - Lust For Life Former Megadeth lead guitarist Marty Friedman made his name with the thrash icons during their biggest period of popularity in the early 1990s. Despite not having the same elusive commercial profile as Metallica's Kirk Hammett, Friedman (who is a big fan of ethnic and new age music) has endeavoured to pursue a successful solo career as an outlet for prog-inspired six string experimentation rather than over the top Metallic excess. www.martyfriedman.com
11 PAT TRAVERS - How Many More Times Canadian blues/rock guitarist Pat Travers paid his dues by playing in bar bands around Quebec. Heading over to the UK he signed to Polydor and soon became a firm live favourite at the Reading Festival on the back of his 1976 debut. By 1979 he'd hit the big time in the US with the new Travers Band (featuring Tommy Aldridge on the skins and co-guitarist Pat Thrall) a lethal combination that has its modern day successor in today's Pat Travers Power Trio. www.pattravers.com
12 PAUL GILBERT - I Am Satan A guitar hero incapable of taking himself too seriously, former Racer X/Mr. Big Metal guitar virtuoso Paul Gilbert, a prodigy of the Los Angeles Guitar Institute Of Technology, is now an established solo artist with an especially huge following in Japan. Firmly putting the emphasis on solid songwriting, recent releases such as 2002's 'Burning Organ' display a talent for creative restraint unlike most of his contemporaries in the shredding commune. www.paulgilbert.com
13 OLIVER-DAWSON SAXON - The Eagle Has Landed (Live)
Saxon's relentless bent for serving up well crafted 1980s-style hard rock gained them one of the most endearing and well earned reputations in Heavy Metal. Affectionately known as the 'Barnsley Big Teasers', their popularity had soared by the release of their 1983 album 'Power & The Glory'. In 2000 Saxon Metal legend Graham Oliver (one of the new batch of six stringers who emerged from the N.W.O.B.H.M.) got back to basics with original Saxon bassist Steve Dawson. www.oliver-dawson-saxon.com
CD 3
01 LYNYRD SKYNYRD - Free Bird The definitive Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd were, and still are, a law unto themselves. Guitarist Gary Rossington (who originally began his musical career as a drummer) one of the group's founding (and surviving members following a tragic plane crash that killed most of the band in 1977) epitomised their boozy, barroom-brawling attitude. Their self-titled debut album was raw, totally uncompromising and contained one of the most popular rock classics ever laid to tape. www.lynyrdskynyrd.com
02 ROBIN GEORGE - Heartline After a touring stint with vintage Brit rockers Magnum, British guitar pin-up Robin George was lauded in the press as the UK's answer to Billy Squier. Tipping his hat to artists like Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams, his 1984 debut solo album 'Dangerous Music' was a class effort filled to the brim with some superb musicianship, especially Pino Pallidino's bass playing. It produced the single 'Heartline', a firm rock club anthem. www.robingeorge.co.uk
03 PETER FRAMPTON - Baby I Love Your Way (Live) One of the biggest arena rock stars of all-time, former Humble Pie singer/guitarman Peter Frampton already had an illustrious musical pedigree before he went solo in the mid-‘70s. Originally lifted from one of the biggest selling live rock records of all time (1976's 'Frampton Comes Alive!') this classic cut elevated him to superstar status. Two decades on, Frampton decided to ‘come alive' once again thanks to a stirring 75 minute set recorded at Detroit's Pine Knob Music Theatre. www.frampton.com
04 THUNDER - Love Walked In (Live)
Re-establishing trademark hard rock virtues, bluesy prime groovers Thunder continue to fly the flag for traditional Brit rock. Inspired by rock stalwarts like Free and Bad Company, guitarist Luke Morley and vocalist Danny Bowes initially started playing together as school mates, cementing their songwriting potential in the early 1990s thanks to a host of homegrown hit singles and sold-out UK tours. www.thunderonline.com
05 YNGWIE MALMSTEEN - Mistreated
Swedish guitar maestro Yngwie Malmsteen has always personified personality and is arguably one of the most accomplished six-stringers around. His love of classical composers such as Paganini, Bach and Beethoven combined with a reverence for classic rock guitar legends like Ritchie Blackmore (a major influence as exposed on this cover of the classic Burn number) and Jimi Hendrix provided him with the inspiration to re-write the bible of HM guitar. www.yngwie.org
06 BIG JIM SULLIVAN - Stairway To Heaven Big Jim Sullivan is reputedly the most sought-after session guitarist in Britain, with a list of 1000 chart entries to his name (including The Kinks 'You Really Got Me'). He is also allegedly credited with being the first musician to have ever used a fuzzbox in the UK, while accompanying P.J. Proby. On 'Mr. Rock Guitar' Sullivan covers a host of killer tunes from such rock luminaries as Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, Free and, of course, Led Zeppelin. www.bigjimsullivan.com
07 IMPELLITTERI - End Of The World High-speed neo classical six stringer Chris Impellitteri is, in technical terms, one of the very best. With a style somewhat reminiscent of Scandinavian guitar god Yngwie Malmsteen, he (like his illustrious Swedish counterpart) first came to prominence working with former Rainbow vocalist Graham Bonnet in 1987. Still a largely self-financed underground guitar virtuoso, Impellitteri still plies his magic, conjuring up well-crafted traditional power Metal. www.rapture.net/impellitteri
08 MARILLION - Easter (Live) Much underrated guitarman Steve Rothery has trodden the boards with Marillion since their 1979 inception in a pub in Aylesbury, UK. When enigmatic frontman Fish left the group in 1988 it looked like the writing was on the wall. Hooking up with new vocalist Steve Hogarth gave the nu-proggers a new lease of life and resulted in the recording of 1989's ambitious 'Seasons End', which pushed Rothery's guitarwork to the fore, especially on the melodically crafted 'Easter'. www.marillion.com
09 MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP - Doctor Doctor
A blistering new version of the classic UFO track, which originally featured on the group's 1974's album of the same name and made its mark in rock lore on 1979's 'Strangers In The Night' live album. When the essential line-up of the band (Mogg/Way/Schenker/Parker/Raymond) reformed in the mid-1990s to record a brand new composition, they reworked a number of their old songs including this concert favourite. www.ufo-music.info
10 UFO
Lights Out (New Version) Vocalist Phil Mogg, bassist Pete Way and drummer Andy Parker formed veteran Brit rockers UFO in 1969. Originally known as Hocus Pocus, the group which took its name in honour of a London club, went through a myriad line-up changes following the departure of Michael Schenker in the late 1970s. Guitarmen Paul Chapman, Atomic Tommy and Lawrence Archer followed suit, filling the legendary axeman's shoes.www.ufo-music.info
11 URIAH HEEP - Gypsy Guitar wizard Mick Box, the 'Cheshire Cat' of rock, has stayed true to his rock 'n' roll roots for over 30 years. Uriah Heep's brand of traditional Heavy Metal made the British band one of the most popular hard rock groups of the early 1970s. Formed by Box and vocalist David Byron in the late 1960s, the group went through an astonishing number of members over the next two decades (nearly 30 different musicians have passed through the band's ranks over the years).

12 DEEP PURPLE - Take It Off The Top (Live) Until he replaced 'moody' guitar hero Ritchie Blackmore as Deep Purple's lead guitarist in 1996, Steve Morse was very much an underground attraction with a healthy following among other guitar players. However, when the remaining original DP Mk 2 members (Gillan/Glover/Lord/Paice) recruited the ex Dixie Dregger to the fold, he immediately gave the veteran hard rockers a much needed new spark, which has since resulted in a host of hard-hitting studio and live albums. www.deep-purple.com
13 STEVE HOWE - To Be Over What more can be said about Yesman Steve Howe? With numerous solo releases under his belt he has also worked with artists as diverse as Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Lou Reed and Fish, among others. A pioneering, pivotal figure in the history of classic rock, Howe literally wrote the rulebook for progressive rock guitar, as exemplified by this reverential re-working of a classic Yes track (which originally appeared on 1974's 'Relayer' album). www.stevehowe.com
