Almost a year and a half exactly to the day of their last visit to Chicago, UFO returned to the House of Blues to kick off another tour. Since their last visit they released a new album and this time out they had a different bass player. .. ... Just like last time, long-time Chicago rock DJ Byrd (now no longer at WLUP) came out and introduced UFO. When the curtains parted the band was all on stage and they opened with one of their classic hits, "Lights Out" and the crowd was full of bobbing heads and cheers. The band sounded flawless and Phil's voice sounded as good as ever. The two guitar delivery of Vinnie Moore and Paul Raymond made for a really full sound and both of them are very skilled players with Paul also handling all keyboard duties. They quickly followed with "Mother Mary" which was another old favorite and it sounded every bit as good as the previous song. The band stopped playing for a minute so Phil could talk to the crowd and he informed them that they'd now be playing some new songs. They started with "Fight Night" and "Wonderland" from their new album, Seven Deadly. They sounded even better live than they did on the album. From there they kept going with some new songs mixed in some old ones. No matter what they played the crowd was into it and heads never stopped bobbing around and many fans sang along to the choruses of their old favorites.

UFO is undoubtedly one of the most underrated, yet influential rock bands, and while it may never receive 20 million ticket requests for its concerts, as Led Zeppelin did back in 2007, if it’s still recording relevant new material and crossing oceans to play small gigs to satiate American demand... ...Great sound, great crowd, just an all-around incredible night of live music for the post-Turkey Day weekend. Excellent playing by the entire band. And, as expected, Vinnie Moore was ON FIRE!! ... ...This is definitely one of the best live heavy rock/ metal performances out there! See this band if you get a chance!! |

UFO invaded Key Club. oduced UFO, they arrived on stage. After everyone's cheers, Mogg went onto say it was one of the most expensive introductions they have had yet. Then, he joked of an alternate method for the next time and the crowd laughed. "Lights Out" was performed, shortly after. "Love to Love" seemed to have received the most love, during UFO's performance. Shortly after Mogg's introduction, the crowd cheered and went onto sing along with him. As De Luca entertained by hovering over the front row, as hands reached for his bass. During "Too Hot To Handle", a female audience grabbed the shoulders of two members of those in the front row and managed to make her way onto the stage. She was quickly apprehended, as UFO continued on. De Luca started "Rock Bottom" with a solo, as the rest of UFO soon followed. As Mogg sang the title, he clapped his hands above his head and the spectators applauded with him. Then, they sang the song's title during each chorus. As UFO left the stage after "Rock Bottom", audience members chanted UFO's name several times for an encore. They ended their concert with "Doctor Doctor" and "Shoot Shoot". Mogg thanked everyone for attending as they handed set lists and guitar picks to those they could reach. "Mother Mary", "Fright Night", "Wonderland", "Cherry", "Let It Roll", "Mojo Town", "Burn Your House Down", "Only You Can Rock Me", "Hell Driver" and "Venus" were also part of UFO's set. |

Thank You and Good Night
CONCERT REPORT - 1st December 2012 - Marquee 15 - Corona - CA
UFO at Marquee 15 in Corona, California on December 1, 2012. Having been a fan of UFO since the late 70's, it was strange to realize that UFO and myself had never been in the same venue at the same time. I decided to rectify that situation by seeing the boys belt out the classics as well as some stuff off their BRILLIANT new cd, Seven Deadly! Having previously seen the band that was direct support to UFO on this evening and being completely underwhelmed by them, I decided to arrive at the venue shortly before UFO were to go on. The Marquee 15 was as full as I've ever seen it! I saw some of the "smaller" women being hoisted overhead and essentialy "crowd surfing" in order to get to the restrooms! The crowd seemed more than ready for UFO to get started. As UFO was introduced, everyone was on their feet and a roar of approval was presented to the band. A few quick comments from Phil and then it was,"Mr. Parker". They tore into Lights Out. Pretty ballsy move to start with one of your biggest hits but they had the mother of all setlists waiting for us. Phil commented that there were some sound issues on Lights Out which were evident but they seemed to correct them because they proceeded to go through some of the "new classics" like Wonderland, Fight Night, Burn Your House Down & Mojo Town as well as the "old classics" and the sound was as good as any show I've ever attended. UFO had the crowd eating out of their hands so to speak. The crowd consisted of some 20-somethings as well as lots of 40 & 50-somethings and let me tell you...THEY WERE LOUD!!! The roar from the crowd never stopped. As I listen back to my recordings of the show you can here the crowd just going nuts...non stop. At times, Phil would stop to tell a joke or a story, ever the front man. If the band took more than a few seconds between songs, the chant of U-F-O would start...THIS CROWD WAS PUMPED! All the players were in top form I must say. Can Phil's vocals really be getting better with age? I thought he was perfect, I couldn't have expected better. Paul, Andy & Rob were energetic, animated and seemed to be having a blast. Vinnie...I've been a fan of Vinnie since 1986. I was excited to see him become a member of UFO but was unsure how he would fit initially. No need to worry! Seven Deadly is as good an UFO cd as there is in my humble opinion and I was thrilled to see them play some of those songs live. Vinnie was spot on all night. He seemed inspired and appeared to be having a great time on stage. Trying to shoot stills of him was extremely difficult as the guy is ALWAYS on the move. He sounded awesome and during the "old classics", he paid the appropriate amount of homage to Michael's work but still put his mark on them. I'm sure he earned a lot of respect this night and gained some fans....a class act. There seemed to be some issue with doing Cherri at about the mid show point...don't know what but they decided not to do it. So, they finished the show with it and it was the best version of that song I've ever heard. They definitely moved it UP on my list of favorite UFO songs! In summary, the band were top notch. I was so impressed. The crowd was wild (bunch of damn crazy old people!) which made it difficult to shoot stills and video but hey I'll take it! Glad to see the boys can still whip 'em into a frenzy! If you get half a chance to go see them GO!!!
