Have posted this:

Calling all UFO fans

I have an interview scheduled with Andy Parker this Friday. These are a few questions I have....

How is Pete Way's health these days? And will he participating in the writing of the next studio album?

Jason Bonham stepped in your abscence for a while, what was the reason for your departure from the band?

Who approached you about coming back to UFO? Did you have any second thoughts about coming back to the band?

What's it like playing with Vinnie Moore vs. playing with Michael Schenker or Paul Champman?

UFO will be releasing a SPV Records retrospective that culls material from the three studio albums and the live record. Did the band have any say in the track selection?

How much longer do you see yourself playing music?

Before you guys call it a day, do you envision doing some live shows or perhaps some new material with Schenker?

feedback please....

BEST OF A DECADE

Steamhammer/SPV

Press Release follows...

NEW ‘THE BEST OF A DECADE’ CD RELEASED SEPTEMBER 20TH ON SPV

UFO, the massively successful multi-million selling classic British metal band whose musical star is burning brighter than ever in the 21st Century, over 40 years since their inception, are set to release ‘The Best Of A Decade’, the first compilation to feature songs from the Vinnie Moore era, on SPV / Steamhammer on September 20th.

UFO, whose main stage performance at London’s High Voltage Festival was rapturously received on 25th July 2010, return to play Birmingham’s Institute on December 2nd, then headline the Hard Rock Hell 4 Festival in Wales on December 3rd, before playing their final live show in the UK in 2010 at Holmfirth Picturedrome on December 4th.

‘The Best Of A Decade’ contains over 80 minutes of pure UFO rock, an 8 page booklet with extensive sleeve notes and photos, and will be available for a cool, low, introductory nice price.

BRIEF REVIEW

So many transitions. UFO has been there. Do you wish for the classic early Eighties UFO with Michael Schenker? Or maybe the Nineties redux with the same? Or maybe your first experience is with Phil Mogg and guitar hero Vinnie Moore in the 21st century. Well, the Best of the Decade is the latter. This is the current UFO: heavy on blues rock with tons of melody and hooks. Is this representative arena rock that hade them famous? Longtime fans stay steady. Best of the Decade is the best of UFO in the last ten years, and it’s a perfect picture of this great band in this day..

...This is classic and current UFO. I dig it and so should you, especially if you’re a fan.

Great to see that two songs from 'The Visitor' - "Saving Me' and Helldriver' made it to the Set List

"Vinnie Moore’s guitar refused to work on Only You Can Rock Me. Singer Phil Mogg remained remarkably unphased, however, remarking: “This is why we never got on the X Factor, give us a slow handclap.” Moore’s guitar was eventually restored and from there UFO never looked back, bombarding the crowd with classic after classic: Lights Out, Love To Love et al."

UFO head back home after their very successful, albeit an 'eventful', tour...

...the 30hr bus journey from Greece due the Volcanic Ash cloud grounding all flights (here in the UK again today), two bass players as Barry was urgently called back home - The band played at 18 venues in a three week period in the following places:

Germany
Greece
England
Scotland
Wales
Belgium
Holland
France

Most pleasing was the varied set-list not only from from venue to venue but from country to country. Songs performed:

Let It Roll - Mother Mary - Saving Me - Daylight Goes To Town - Out In The Street - Stop Breaking Down - This Kidds - Hell Driver Cherry - Only You Can Rock Me - Love To Love - Ain't No Baby - Too Hot To Handle - Lights Out - Rock Bottom - Doctor Doctor - Shoot Shoot

The band have a brief rest before travelling to Brazil.

UFO spotted rolling back the rock’n’roll years in Cardiff

May 1 2010 by David Owens, South Wales Echo

THE evening’s openers Voodoo Six played an energetic, well-received set.

A London-based five-piece, their twin guitars and up-front bass formation laid down some seriously heavy riffing. They’re evidently one band to watch.

It’s 25 years since UFO’s last Cardiff gig but the years dissolved away when they took to the stage.

Opening with a kicking Let It Roll, they had the crowd roaring them on from the off.

Paul Raymond’s keyboards have always lent texture to UFO’s best songs, as demonstrated on Out In The Street, the epic Love To Love and the crowd led, call and response anthem Only You Can Rock Me.

This had audience bellowing out the words: “You ain’t with us, then it’s just bad news”, which was ironic, given there was no danger of that situation developing. Singer Phil Mogg was beaming throughout, obviously in his element; the consummate frontman amusing the crowd with his banter and keeping the Welsh fans happy by quoting from Dylan Thomas’ poem, Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night.

The rest of the band were equally on form. Drummer Andy Parker was a powerhouse at the back, bassist Barry Sparkes substituted in fitting style for the absent Pete Way, while guitarist Vinnie Moore is now a well established member of the band, standing up to previous legendary UFO axe-man Michael Schenker.

With an unstoppable momentum the set built to a crescendo with live favourites Too Hot To Handle, Lights Out, Rock Bottom and Doctor Doctor. “It’s been a pleasure,” shouted Phil Mogg, as the band took their front stage bows and thanked the audience.

The feeling was definitely mutual.

Cardiff - Having got some rest, I can now give you a brief review from Cardiff in South Wales.

The band were in superb form and without doubt it was one of their finest performaces that I had witnessed. UFO were enjoying every moment, interacting with each other constantly (including Andy). Barry Sparks really fits into the mix like a glove, his playing and stage presence is superb. This is a great UFO line-up. The crowd were fantastic and UFO seemed energised by their reaction. From the very first moment that Vinnie created the feedback loop from guitar to amp (link is from HMV Picture House, not Cardiff by the way) as 'Let It Roll' cut through - an excellent choice for the opening number - the fans went wild. Another great classic followed, 'Mother Mary' ensuring that the atmosphere was electric. The three tracks over the evening which were played from 'The Visitor' got an amazing reaction from the crowd and these now sit very comfortably within the set-list. 'Stop Breaking Down' was performed live and I was really knocked out by the performance. FANTASTIC. I hope this becomes part of the set. 'Love to Love' was immense - beautiful. 'Ain't No Baby' from Obsession is such a great choice but I would lreally ove to see 'Pack It Up and Go' from the same album, maybe one day. 'Lights Out' and 'Rock Bottom' were brilliant. The night was magical and the band played two encores. Looking forward to 'High Voltage', London in July. Tris

LAST NIGHT - Thanks to Mark for the update:

UFO were outstanding in Sheffield last night.

The band were firing on all six, and the sizeable audience responded in kind. I got myself down the front in the second row and sang every word. The band played for 1 hour 45 minutes and I must have needed to pee for about 1 hour 15 but I wasn't moving for anything. The set was excellent - thanks to the band for playing Stop Breaking Down. Highlights for me included Out In the Streets, Cherry, and a stonking Ain't No Baby. Special thanks to Barry Sparks whose top-notch performance evoked the spirit of the sadly absent Mr Way in no uncertain terms.

Volcanic ash disruption enters fourth day in UK

UFO are faced by a logistical nightmare as they prepare to travel from Greece back to Europe.

As you can see by the map above, the Volcanic ash now affects many countries. The band have until tomorrow night (Monday) to travel from Thessaloniki to Nuremberg which is over 1,000 miles.

Wednesday's schedule is to tour the UK for seven days but here on Sunday, the UK is enduring a fourth day as a virtual no-fly zone, as the travel chaos caused by volcanic ash drifting from Iceland shows no sign of ending.

Flight restrictions have been extended until at least 1900 BST and forecasters say the ash cloud could remain over the UK for several more days. Will try and keep you all updated.

Vinnie Moore posted the following update on his Official Fan Page:

First 2 UFO shows rocked. We are in full tour mode now, playing thessaloniki, Greece tonight. We are heading to Germany tomorrow but have had to alter our travel plans because many airports have closed. We now have to fly half way and drive the rest on the tour bus, and i think the last 30 miles will be on a camel. so a 2 hour flight has become a 24+ excursion. there goes our day off. volcanic ash? wtf man?

It was traditionally shown every Thursday evening on BBC1, before being moved to Fridays in 1996, and then moved to Sundays on BBC Two in 2005. UFO tour bassist (Euro and USA 2008, USA 2009), Rob De Luca has released an update

Hello all, it's been a busy season:

The UFO fall US tour was a blast. What an incredible band! It was cool to see a bunch of familiar faces from 2008, and many new ones. Much thanks to METALLICA and BUMBLEFOOT for comin' out to watch. Extra special thanks to all the fans, you're intense dedication is so appreciated. After that, UFO headed over to Europe which completely kicked ass!! I was psyched to see Basel, Switzerland, where I'd never been. (Shout out to VINNIE MOORE who's in Europe now with his solo tour- go see it!)

The same day UFO finished, I flew to Finland to meet up with the SEBASTIAN BACH BAND. Our first show (on no rehearsal!) was direct support for the legendary ALICE COOPER at the Esport Arena in Helsinki. Alice and band were so friendly to us and of course their show was amazing. Thanks also to MICHAEL MONROE for joining us onstage in Turku, Finland for "Taxi Driver". We then ravaged our way across Europe. I was happy to make it to Budapest, where I'd never been. Such warm people, and of course back to Italia!!! By the time we got to Rome the BACH band was absolutely on fire!
We were home for the holidays barely long enough to pet the cat, then back out on the road. This time as direct support for GUNS N' ROSES across Canada. I can not express how cool AXL and the gang were to us, including their crew. It's such a huge privilege to play sold out arenas and I think the fans really appreciated having two of the absolute best hard rock frontmen on one stage. I surely did!!! The GN'R show is a definite "must see" and the afterparties were almost as wild as the shows. DANKO JONES was the opener and is also a really good rock band of supercool people. Thank you again so much Canada!!
SEBASTIAN played a few packed out headline shows on the way home and now the CHINESE DEMOCRACY/ANGEL DOWN WORLD TOUR rolls on to South America, so look out for us.....
I also wanted to mention that LOVEMBER RECORDS has just released the debut album from my band OF EARTH and made it available FREE for anyone and everyone at http://OfEarth.bandcamp.com
It was co-engineered by Grammy winner Tom Camuso and I think it turned out really good.
See you out there, somewhere... Rob De Luca.

GUNS N' ROSES/SEBASTIAN BACH dates:

Kevin Alba from MetalAsylum.net has submitted the following report:

HAIL!, the all-star band featuring bassist David Ellefson (ex-MEGADETH), guitarist Andreas Kisser (SEPULTURA), vocalist Tim "Ripper" Owens (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, ex-JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH) and newly appointed chameleon drummer Mike Portnoy (DREAM THEATER), played its first U.S. show last night (Tuesday, January 26) at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in New York City.

As a special treat for New York, SAVATAGE/TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA guitarist Chris Caffery joined the guys on smoking renditions of "Lights Out" by UFO (which Ripper said the band learned just for Eddie Trunk who presented the band tonight because UFO is his favorite band)
