Tour Dates USA - "Operation Rock and Roll"

Review quote: "Operation Rock and Roll tour with Judas Priest. While Alice sounded great, Vinnie Moore wailed and the band overall rocked hard with new and classic Cooper." --- Quote from Derek Sherinian (keyboard player) on Vinnie Moore "Vinnie is a great guitar player. He used to practice on the bus all the Alice Cooper tour bus for hours. Eric Singer and I used to drive him crazy.." |
The 'Operation Rock And Roll' Tour was a joint headline event with metal band Judas Priest. Despite that the stage set was still pretty elaborate. The main feature was a huge skull at the back of the stage in the center. The drum and keyboard risers were seperated left and right stage with giant skeletal hands holding them as if they were the hands of the skull at the back. The show opened with a long, chugging one chord intro to 'Under my Wheels' before Alice breaks out of the skull mouth in a cloud of smoke for the first line of the song. After that the first part of the set is played with only handheld props. 'Feed My Frankenstein' featured a large "Mad Scientist" like table on which a women was placed. The table was then covered and rose into the lighting rig before returning to earth with the women replaced by the 'Cold Ethyl' plastic doll. Theatrically the centerpiece was 'Go To Hell'. The magic screen, last seen on the 1979 'From The Inside' tour, drops down at the back of the stage (hiding the giant skull) and Alice proceeds to jump in and out of the screen while footage of a mad scientist lab shows and he is chased by robe wearing skeletons. Eventually he tries to jump out of the screen one last time and discovers he`s trapped. The camera slowly pulls back and the audience discovers first that he`s trapped behind bars, and then that the bars are in fact the teeth on the skull. Smoke swirls and lightning flashes. Then suddenly Alice bursts out of the real on stage skull that has been revealed as the screen, showing a exact scale skull image, had slowly risen under cover of the effects. It was a stunning effect. |

The US 'Hey Stoopid' tour was called 'Operation Rock'n'Roll' and was a co-headline tour with Judas Priest. Also meant to be on the bill were Motorhead, Metal Church and Dangerous Toys. The Tour had severe financial problems and some dates were canceled.
Brian Nelson (Oct `95): "Some total moron at the stinkin' record company [thought of the idea] . All the acts were on Sony/Epic. My mind still boggles from the utter retardedness of it all. I told everyone from day one that it would bomb. Nobody ever listens to me."
One idea talked about for the tour theatrics was having Alice dropped into a pit of Rattlesnakes.
