CONCERT REVIEW - UFO, Warsaw, Klub Progresja, 30.04.2012 Shoot Shoot
Backstage, he told me his new album (‘Terms and Conditions’) is to be released very soon and it will have 16 songs, but they were thinking of reducing the number. I asked him not to do that. The rhythm section of Andy Parker and Rob De Luca laid down strong beat throughout the whole show, with Rob singing along with Phil and Paul when required. Andy was also enjoying himself – you could see his face beaming with joy when he was giving a stomp to his kit not forgetting about the grove of it all.
Vinnie’s solo delicately echoes Blackmore’s playing and adds a brand-new poetics to the UFO sound. You could see Phil putting his whole heart into the song while he was singing about ‘the monkey, reckless winos, and black albinos’. The rest of the band were a huge foundation to rely on. ‘Wonderland’ sent shivers down my spine and took my whole body and soul apart. Energetic, heavy and to the point. ‘Mojo Town’ is a groovy, heavy and bluesy cut which slowed the pace down a bit, but made the night even hotter than it was at the beginning. UFO proved their brilliant musicianship here and I have never seen them sounding so tight. ‘Burn Your House Down’ was the most lyrical song of the evening, with again Phil and Vinnie in the spotlight. Phil’s vocal acrobatics fused the air with magical overflow of energy and lyricism whereas Vinnie’s solos and tasteful guitar playing in the song made your head spin around with amazement. And the time came for ‘Venus’. It was the first time I have seen the song performed live and it was rocking my body throughout. Love the structure of the song, with delicate vocals intermingled with gentle acoustic guitar sounds all hot and ready to explode in the fiery chorus. ‘Hell Driver’ was a song with a riveting groove and made me clapping my hands. So for me, it was the night of those six songs, and the classics were an icing on the cake.
Later on I was interviewing Vinnie Moore you can find the interview here on Misty. To sum up, it was one of the best nights of my life and I am glad I could be part of yet another UFO experience. Catch the band on ‘Seven Deadly’ tour |

MR: Vinnie, I’m doing this interview for ‘Misty Green and Blue’ and Tristan says ‘hi’. MR: ‘To The Core’ for me a great album and abundant with great musical styles of different origins. And it seems to me, as you said to Piotr (Piotr Brzychcy is support band Kruk's guitarist), before the interview that guitar playing is not only about shredding – it is also about the melody… |
MR: What experience or who made you pick up the guitar in the first place?

Hard Rock - UFO in front Metzingen
"Doctor Doctor" personally METZINGEN. They play in big houses, now in Hanover, tomorrow in Bochum, Bremen on Tuesday. The other day they found in the wine before Metzinger nearly 100 people and forced gave a "very personal concert." The delight of the rose, the longer the evening. The intimacy was so great that guitarist Vinnie Moore on the front row was almost touch the strings and singer Phil Mogg "Sex with the band announced". The comprehensive life's work performed in two hours, but only a platonic relationship. Cult of personality is not yet reversed. With Phil Mogg and Andy Parker (drums) were men of the first hour of 1969 on the stage, came a little later Paul Raymond (keyboards, rhythm guitar) to ten years then Vinnie Moore. On bass was temps Rob de Luca, a founding member of Spread Eagle. Snatches of Hendrix, the DoorsUFO could draw on the past. "Doctor Doctor", "Rock Bottom" and "Shoot Shoot" are signature tunes that have arrived in the station house wife. Certainly not in this version: Left and right of way is a lot of room, especially the used Vinnie Moore. He threw scraps of Jimi Hendrix ("Voodoo Child") and the Doors ("Riders on the Storm") into the air. With screaming guitar, Moore sat almost every piece in brilliant scene. When he would have the overwhelming shadow of his predecessor, Michael Schenker (Scorpions) illuminate, he indulged in extravagant solos, which were each taken by itself worth the trip. And yet: The healthy mix of old favorites such as "Lights Out" and songs from the new album "Seven Deadly" gave an overall picture of the hard rock of the 70s, he can hardly be played better. Only rarely, however, in such an intimate setting. (Co) |

UFO at Bluesgarage - View more pictures and German REVIEW
GERMAN to ENGLISH translation The British rock legends UFO plays in these spring-like Friday night at the Blues Garage Isernhagen a much acclaimed concert with old classics and new songs from her recently released album on SPV Records "Seven Deadly". Without opening act but failed in a lot of power in 1969 to active rocker frontman Phil Mogg and guitar virtuoso Vinnie Moore are going to clock 21.15. The Blues Garage is filled very well and a place in the first row is hard fought. In the last third of the set is the time of guitar legend Vinnie Moore, who interpose in the song 'Rock Bottom' and 'Doctor Doctor' again and again very well-done guitar solos. Both songs are in a particular song length of 8 minutes plus estimated, more than celebriert. Conclusion:

Hi Tristan, Thanks for your beautiful ufo website. I really enjoyed it a lot in anticipation of ufo’s gig in Bremen. Please find attached scans of Paul Raymond’s pick that he used Tuesday night the ticket for the Tuesday show, an old ticket from the show in Wilhelmshaven and an very old ticket from 1986 when UFO played at Stadthalle in Bremen sandwiched between the openers Dokken and the headliner Accept. Accept where at their climax in those days but i heard many people in the crowed saying that it is a shame that a band like UFO is playing before accept. For me it was the first time to see UFO live. In hindsight it was not their strongest time with Atomic Tommy on guitar but i loved it, especially the light show during lights out when during the chorus the lights were actually switched off for a second and the whole arena of a few thousand people was in complete darkness only to be blinded afterwards when there were floodlight turned on full beam towards the audience. Concerning the attendance and the light show Tuesdays performance in Bremen was a very different cup of tea. Instead of playing in our biggest indoor arena UFO were booked in a basement club called Meisenfrei. The tour bus blocked half the road as it was parked smack bang in front of the entrance and the street is quite narrow. It was a nice spring day with lots of sunshine (which is a rare occasion in this part of the world) so before the gig most people sat outside in a make shift beer garden on the sidewalk between the tourbus and the club. Initially i was worried if there would be enough people showing up to honour our band. The location is small and dominated by a long bar. Then there were couches, chairs and tables giving it a pub atmosphere. I watched the opener The Wheel from my chair less than 2 yards away from their guitar player. A funny bloke who throroughly wiped his guitar before and after the show and wore working gloves to carry his flightcase from the stage. Technically perfect but lacking a bit of the hard rock feel. Nevertheless it was a good gig of them, and slowly the place filled up and I moved from my chair towards the edge of the stage. If I had tried this in 1986 it would not have been that easy. What do I say about UFOs performance? Their setlist and their good shape have been well documented on your website before. Still I was blown away. On the one hand i was mesmerized seeing my heroes perform in this living room right in front of me. On the other hand they felt so at ease. There was lots of smiles, lots of banter and small talk among them and interaction with the audience. Phil told us many stories between the songs. e.g. he took he first flight ever to Bremen when they had a TV performance at Radio Bremen Beatclub. Initially he drank Heineken on stage though Bremen is the home of Becks. Phil mentioned that he cried of joy while passing the Becks factory (which is just half a mile away from the venue). Of course he got served with a Becks which Phil claimed was delivered in a limo by the Becks CEO and Phil performed a beer tasting praising the slight taste of peaches and walnut... Phil and Vinnie kept joking around and Vinnie started playing Ace of Spades and let the audience sing Motörhead. Needless to say their actual set was amazing. Not only "same old shit" as Phil remarked but also stuff form the new CD. Andy Parker was well hidden between the Marshall stacks (Paul Raymond could not even see him, well the stage was small). But he was full of energy. Rob da Luca is a bass player just created for UFO. Not as bouncy as a young Pete Way but coming very close. It was a perfect evening. I guess they spend around 2 hours on stage as they jammed quite a lot in between the songs and also had some really extended versions of their hits. They did not leave the stage between the encores (it would have meant walking through the audience as the dressing room was in the back of the venue). To sum it up: I feel really privileged to have experienced the band that close. It felt as we were having a beer together. Best regards, Jigal Beez |

CONCERT REPORT (German) from Stadthalle
Concert Review
(added 30th May)
ENGLISH TRANSLATION
| UFO Detmold, Stadthalle 10.5.12 In a review of the current album "Seven Deadly" has complained for years that UFO hoof it through the villages and sell it under value would be. That's right - then again not. On the one hand are the days when they filled the venerable Hammersmith Odeon in London, passing for over 30 years. On the other hand, the group is still booked like for open air events, eg right on the day after this concert, as they played a festival in Italy with JUDAS PRIEST. And if you "status yesterday and today" and the like can be set aside: In a small frame, the quintet seems obvious to feel comfortable. Especially in Detmold castle with a park, pedestrian street next door, blue sky above about it ... Ideal conditions for a hot evening concert! At the THE WHEEL contributed their part. Considering that certainly had none of the approximately 300 attendees heard before a note of the formation, the Norwegians could be more than satisfied with the responses - there were even calls for encores! And despite a streaky start: The first two songs popped Although purely good, but belonged to my ears to the category: "Live okay, but boring to drive," Only the successful guitar work to prevent drift into irrelevance. The third track "Sparks" I was suddenly wide awake, remembering the acoustic beginning but actually BON JOVIS "Wanted Dead Or Alive"! Here, the set pieces of the genre into a coherent whole with wonderfully flowing guitar lines were joined together. Clearly the highlight of a total of entertaining 35 minutes. Work to rule, it was definitely not what UFO then offered 105 minutes. The musicians burst before formal playfulness, spontaneously spread the "The Visitor" track "Hell Driver" and mount "Shoot Shoot" as the last addition to the official set list (see below). A total of 15 songs, sung - you can not say it often enough - as a band unleashed aufspielenden. Andy Parker, a rock-solid foundation Zimmert, Rob De Luca represents Pete Way as confident that you do not miss the asparagus Tarzan for a moment (and it seems to have the same or gemopst his bass ...) and all-rounder Paul Raymond lived quietly stuffing / effective any possible remaining sound gap. Phil Mogg, who denies the evening with coffee, knows what he can expect his distinctive voice unchanged, the rest is self and Plauderlaune. The man is in excellent shape - 64 years! And he knows that Vinnie Moore is the real star. The Americans apparently can play anything - and the ease with which he salvo after salvo - almost no tremolo use! - Shakes off the cuff, it moves into the vicinity of the greats. At the latest when he plays in "Venus," his Dean-ax without the slightest drop outs on the back, the enthusiasm knows no bounds. Applause on the open scene, foot locks, cheering on a dream-established musicians who have no gimmicks needed. ORIGINAL GERMAN REVIEW | Translated from German to English
UFO, The Wheel, Night Rain in concert (Ingolstadt, May 2012)Also, few viewers can be quite noisy
The headliner can inspire. Singer Phill Mogg knows his craft simply UFOAfter a renovation break, which is significantly extended, unfortunately, due to a faulty cable, it is done. UFO enter the stage. This was now freed from the second drum and amps all the support act, so that Phill Mogg and his colleagues have plenty of space. Without the British prefaces large give the same gas. "Mother Mary" is defined as the first song the same show that the group wants to rock and can still correct. This coup succeeds wonderfully. Now also available in virtually all guests attending the event hall in a loose group in front of the stage and celebrate the presence of UFOs because the angular movement number immediately brings in the crowds. The band is quite full of motion. Above all, bassist Rob De Luca can hardly keep still. He and guitarist Vinnie Moore pose together again and send a clear message that they have the appearance of visibly fun. The set list is by mixed, but the latest album "Seven Deadly" is of course well represented. But that does anything from anyone, because the CD is pretty good. Right at the beginning Phill Mogg reported the results of football Bayern Munich, who on the night are not good for Bayern fans. In Ingolstadt, but leaves all the cold, the fans want UFO listen. Already in the first pause after "Fight Night", the opener of the current CD are UFO -cries aloud. The audience seems to have have fun in a good mood and also Phill Mogg. He grins at the audience and continuously does not shy away from being chat with the audience a little. With "Let It Roll," the British can be the first true classic from the hook. The number to be celebrated properly. All smiles, the way people aged 16 and over 60 belong to stretch the tape counter. Interestingly, it is not the case that only the classics of UFO catch on, that's how many bands that have reached a certain age. The songs on "Seven Deadly" be heard. For laughter makes Phill Mogg, as he is on the word "grumpy" attempts. After several attempts, the singer can pronounce the word correctly, however, and is delighted that the fans understand what he means. After "Mojo Town," he says still that UFOs do not use Schrammel guitar. Many bands, especially current metal bands, their riffs shred just so down says Phill. UFOs do not so, he says. At the next performance is also the guitarist Vinnie Moore impressively demonstrated. "Burn The House" is also a number that allows beautifully played like chords. "Only You Can Rock Me" strikes again in a different direction. The song is absorbed and before the stage goes across generations from the punk. UFO have it good in that. Then, when even "Love To Love" resonates, the crowd is ecstatic. One would not believe how much noise can make such a small crowd. Now the musicians really easy game and still have a lot of trump cards. "Lights Out", "Rock Bottom" and "Doctor Doctor", now just come songs, music history, written, and as with "Shoot Shoot" the concert is over, all convinced that we share a wonderful evening has spent. Tonight UFO had it's next to last gig of their European Tour at 'Het Bolwerk' in Sneek, where they were promoting their latest album 'Seven Deadly'.
I was unsure what to expect from 'Het Bolwerk', as I had never been there before, but I was surprised! The sound is pretty good and the stage generally affords pretty good views. All in all a decent place to go if your favourite band happen to be playing. I arrived in time to catch the opening band, The Wheel from Norway.
They present a combination of different rock genres from the 70's, 80's and 90's. They certainly were doing a good job warming up the crowd banging out there classic rock sound. I took my place quite near the front of the stage, take some pictures and struck up a conversation with the fellow next to me. We talked about UFO and 80's rock in general.
After about a thirty minute set change, the lights dimmed and UFO took the stage. I managed to see their setlist before they started and it looked great.
The 16-song set touched on every classic era of UFO's history, reaching as far back as the debut album, 'Phenomenon' to the band’s latest 'Seven Deadly'. The show kicked off with 'Mother Mary' from 1975's excellent 'Force It' album, followed by two new songs 'Fight Night' and 'Wonderland'.
I bought the new CD on the release date, listen to it over and over again, so it's absolutely great to hear some brand new songs performed live tonight. The band followed with the classics 'I'm A Loser' and 'Let It Roll' before once again returning to the present with 'Mojo Town' and 'Burn The House Down'. Phil was in fine form and spoke quite a lot between the songs and every now and then he cracked a joke, something that was much appreciated by the enthusiastic crowd. Mogg has been one of my favorite singers in rock music. His voice is really amazing... he can sing high, he can sing powerful and also puts some ''bluesy vibe'' into his vocal style, I've always loved that!
Pete Way’s replacement, Rob de Luca, does a fine job onstage. He is a great bass player, relaxed and energetic, and forms a very solid rhythmic section alongside drummer Andy Parker. I love Andy's drumming, he gets so into it! A hard working, passionate drummer, It's great to see him back in the band again.
And what to say about Vinnie? He's an icon! his guitar-licks were tight and faultless throughout and he also added in a bit of his own improvisation to the lead parts in songs such as 'Rock Bottom' and 'Shoot Shoot' to fit his excellent playing style. A guitar maestro he is for sure!
My only point of criticism is the work done by the lightning designer. The spotlight on Vinnie was much too weak during the solo's and a constantly horrible inefficient orange glow annoys me. UFO continued with 'Only You can Rock Me' from the 'Obsession' cd followed by 'Love To Love' with Paul Raymond on keys, another great talent. His contributions are essential to the bands sound.
The band performed one relatively recent song, 'Hell Driver' from 'The Visitor', then it was back to the past for Venus, Too Hot To Handle, Lights Out and 'Rock Bottom', that always gets the crowd bouncing. Phil raised his microphone stand as high as it could go and turned the microphone towards the audience, singing ´Rock!.. Rock Bottom..!´. He gets the crowd on his side.
It´s great to see after all these years these songs still are very strong and have surely survived the test of time.
After some 'thank you's' and a few moments off-stage, there was time for two encores: ‘Doctor Doctor’ (which brought the crowd on and off their feet again) and probably the best version of ‘Shoot Shoot’ I have ever heard, with lots of audience participation and in particular Vinnie's jamming expands the song to over thirteen minutes in length, which just proves what a top guitarist he is.
Vinnie finally did a short intro piece of Led Zeppelin's 'Whole Lotta Love', supported by Andy's drumming. Absolutely fun!
Hope I could settle with just this one night experience. A lack of time and the number of gigs I've allready visit last week made me decide to stay at home tomorrow, but I just know I’m going to regret this. One thing is for sure, I had a great night, and about the band must be said: they’re high quality and stand for their music, not forgetting the phenomenal efforts of Batttttty on the merchandise stand as always...!
Thanks for maintaining your fantastic website Tristan!!
Much respect to all the hard work, Thanks again! Peter I've also uploaded some more pics from UFO's show in The Bolwerk/Sneek, the Netherlands on May 18 which can be found at:
