As for the show I was deeply impressed. It was my first show with Vinnie and he
was in top shape (as you will hear in the clips) and I was really surprised that
he fits in so well.
Phil was enjoying himself, making fun of Pete ("I'm having just one small sip!
Don't think that I'm an alcoholic like the bass player!"), chatting with the
audience, and his voice is strong as ever. Although it was a small venue the
vocal mix was very clear.

err.. by the.. WAY... Pete still makes the show, but maybe he's no longer that
much up front or it was Vinnies playing that made me pay less attention to him
this time...
(I remember times like the Walk on Water tour, when it was IMPOSSIBLE not to pay
attention to Pete at any second of the gig. He seemed to perform on his one
stage way up front of the others)... But that's not so say he's growing lame,
it's just the problem when you get measured by the standards you once set
yourself...

After seeing one of the best MSG lineups in ages late last year I wasn't sure
what to think of UFO with Vinnie but I went home a convinced believer once
more...

cheers, Gerald

True rock legends distinguish themselves not only by contributing several classics to musical history, they also keep their artistic output at a permanently high level and despite all routine always have a fresh wind blowing through their band structure. UFO fulfils all these criteria: next to classics such as Phenomenon, Force It and No Heavy Pettin, which saw the band clock up one success after the other during the Seventies, and the beginning of the new millennium finds Phil Mogg, Pete Way and Paul Raymond as inspired and creative as ever. Thanks to their American guitarist, Vinnie Moore, who joined the fold three years ago and proved his class and significance for the group on You Are Here, his debut recording with UFO, and the live cut, Showtime, the band has grown even stronger. Their latest release, The Monkey Puzzle, released in Sept. 2006 marked the return of drummer Andy Parker, who had been part of the original line-up that recorded the legendary debut at the end of the Sixties and has already played live on stage again with his old pals.

30th June 2007 - England - Southampton - The Brook

Why is it that every time I go and See UFO play, I come away dissapointed? Dissapointed by the fact that they are not as well known as Guns and Roses, Aerosmith and other stadium bands. UFO are without doubt one of the finest live bands in the world. Fiver amazingly talented musicians, make the sum of the band named UFO. THESE BOYS ROCKED like no other band that I have ever seen and I have seen some. The combination of Power, Melody and songwriting makes UFO stand out head and shoulders above many bands and this is one of the reasons that they are still able to generate so much interest in 2007. Still able to headline festivals here in the UK for one, speaks volumes.

br. .br. .br
Tonight at the Brook, an intimate venue in Southampton was a real showcase gig. Personal highlights for me was 'Love to Love'. The build-up was superb and has to be one of the all-time ultimate rock songs EVER. I am proud that this website, 'Misty Green and Blue' is named after my favourite Phil Mogg lyric. Beautiful. It is with joy that Phil, Pete, Vinnie, Andy and Paul interact with one another on stage - something that hasn't happened with any other line-up that I have witnessed over the past 4 decades. Other highlights were 'Only You Can Rock Me', 'Baby Blue' and 'Let It Roll'. 'Rock Bottom' rocked as no other with a great extended solo by Vinnie.

br. br

The sound was fantastic, balanced and clear. UFO have Martin Leissner to thank for this and I noticed that this was ther same last year at both Londons Astoria and in Bristol. Martin, you are doing a great job. Another aspect that never seems to be mentioned but is just as important and thats the stage lighting. This is down to Dave Beazley - Thanks Dave. The whole UFO crew is very supportive and although I didn't want to single anyone out, its good to get some positive feedback . Cheers fellas.

br

It dissapoints me that UFO also get unfairly criticised for supposedly playing ONLY the 'Strangers In The Night' set-list. Guys, listen up, UFO do play tracks from Phenomenon, Force It, No Heavy Petting and Obsession. OK these songs featured on the SITN set-list and these have become great songs, classic tracks over time. What UFO are doing, and doing very well, are using these songs as their core set BUT they have also been adding more recent and varied tracks to their set list over the past three years. These figures may make you sit up and listen. UFO have played an additional 14 songs that were NOT part of the SITN set list. YES 14:

The latest two tour dates have included 'Lettin' Go' (No Place to Run), 'Hard Being Me' (The Monkey Puzzle), 'When Daylight Goes To Town' (You Are Here), Baby Blue (You Are Here) and Fighting Man (Sharks). The previous brace of gigs at the end of May 2007 included 'Black and Blue' (The Monkey Puzzle) as part of the set-list. The European tour, late 2006 had another two tracks included from the 'Monkey Puzzle' - 'Heavenly Body' and 'Drink Too Much'. The previous year, we had my favourite of all UFO songs, 'The Wild One' (You Are Here), 'Pack It Up and Go' (Obsession) and Mr Freeze' (You Are Here). 2004 Tour - 'Midnight Train' (Covenant), 'Call Me' (You Are Here) and 'Jello Man' (You Are Here) - Phew. Thats half of the 'You are Here' album and four from 'The Monkey Puzzle' as well as tracks from, 'Sharks', 'Covenant' and 'Obsession'. I agree in part with Dave Ling, that there are many more songs from the Paul Chapman era that UFO can draw from but I am impressed with the fact that UFO hve been circulating additional material of 14 non SITN songs performed live since Vinnie joined the band.

Well thats the Misty Green and Blue gig report for everyone - Not as good maybe as the professional music journalists but a personal view of Tristan Greatrex. I live to see the next UFO in September - Only You Can...

UFO (LIVE) - Live At Stormin' The Castle, Durham (UK)
September 1, 2007

by: MICK BURGESS

..

..

Stormin' The Castle is the premier motorbike rally in North England, set in the grounds of Witton Castle in County Durham. Since its inception in 1990, it has grown in stature year by year and now features a fairground, numerous shops, a custom bike show, and bars (obviously) along with two tents featuring musical entertainment from the region and beyond. You can hear varying styles -- Rockabilly, Rock `n` Roll, Blues, and Hard Rock. Tonight it was UFO`s turn to entertain the hoard of bikers who’d been camping … and drinking since the morning before.

UFO are the perfect act for a festival such as this. Their down-to-earth showmanship and catchy Hard Rocking songs are just what the doctor ordered after a day on the beer.

Kicking off with the magnificent “Mother Mary,” UFO hit the stage with four fifths of the classic line-up that recorded the seminal live opus Strangers In The Night, with only hot shot guitarist Vinnie Moore stepping in a few years back to replace the increasingly erratic Michael Schenker. It must be said that Vinnie Moore was outstanding throughout the night. With a reputation as a bit of a widdle merchant prior to joining UFO, he has really grown into the role and delivered solos of subtlety and melody when needed and can let rip at the right moment too. His versatility and reliability are a real asset to UFO.

“Daylight Comes To Town” was quickly followed by “Let It Roll” and "I’m a Loser," and Pete Way, surely the ultimate Rock `n` Roll bass player, looks like he’s had a couple of jars in the bar before the show and spends most of the time hogging the limelight in the fashion that only Way can. With a bass slung so low it’s amazing that he doesn’t trip over it, he spends as much time punching the air or pointing at the crowd as he does playing his bass.

Phil Mogg, all dressed suavely in black, looked very fit and could pass for a man half his age. His laid back delivery and dry, between song banter is as entertaining as usual and ensures that an easy-going hearty atmosphere is maintained throughout. On the ballad “Baby Blue,” Mogg excelled vocally.

“Hard Being Me,” one of the two songs aired from the excellent Monkey Puzzle opus features a great, dirty Blues riff and slide guitar from Paul Raymond. Although the likes of Mogg and Way take the lion’s share of the attention in the band, UFO simply would not be UFO without Raymond’s contributions. Whether on rhythm guitar or backing vocals or via providing the coloring to the songs with his keyboards, Raymond is an essential part of the UFO sound.

The bulk of the show was taken up with cuts from Strangers In The Night and no-one can argue with the likes of “Only You Can Rock Me,” “Lights Out,” a stunning “Love To Love” where Vinnie Moore really shined, and “Too Hot To Handle.”

Closing the set was the mammoth “Rock Bottom,” built around a fantastic cutting riff and the sparkling trademark UFO melody; this had the crowd well and truly Rocking. Again Moore easily stepped out from the shadow cast by Schenker. He has fit into UFO so well you’d think he’d been there from the very beginning when he ambled over to a prostrate Pete Way during his showpiece solo to give him a boot as he lay on the floor for what seemed like several minutes. A puzzled Way looked up in surprise and rose to his feet without missing a note. Only UFO can do this! Those rough, unpredictable edges that UFO produce on stage are exactly the reason why they are a much-loved British institution.

Returning to the stage for timeless encores, including “Doctor Doctor,” UFO delivered the perfect medicine to get the crowd bouncing as midnight came and went. As the final strains of “Shoot Shoot” rose into the night, UFO proved once again what an entertaining live band they are, and they certainly went down a storm at this superbly organized Bikers Festival.
