UFO
"The Visitor"
Label: SPV
UFO is one of the biggest bands in the history of hard rock, a living legend, being a huge influence on many bands even today. In their 40th year anniversary UFO released the 20th studio album of their career with the title "The Visitor". The album is the 3rd of the band with Vinnie Moore on lead guitar and it contains many blues elements continuing the tradition started by the album "Covenant" in 2000 with Michael Schenker on guitar and became more intense and mature in the albums that followed with Moore in the position of Schenker.
UFO in "The Visitor" managed to perfectly combine blues and hard rock with blues elements and motifs to make their presence highly visible in the biggest part of the album and mainly on songs like the beautiful "Saving Me", "On The Waterfront" and "Rock Ready". Of course there are moments of pure hard rock with the blues element to a smaller role with songs such as "Living Proof", "Can't Buy A Thrill" and "Villains & Thieves" to leave very good impressions too and “Stranger In Town "stealing the show reminding of Deep Purple at the time of "Perfect Strangers" album and onwards."The Visitor" does not contain a mediocre song! Although Phil Mogg can not sing in the style and the vitality he had in the 70's albums of the band but still is a great singer performing very well at all tracks. But what really steals the show is Vinnie Moore with the great riffs and solos that really put "The Visitor" to a higher level. It should be noted that bassist, Pete Way, has been absent from the recording sessions due to a medical condition affecting his liver. Bass parts have been recorded by Peter Pichl.
Eventually UFO with "The Visitor" shows us once again that after 40 years of career can give us endless hours of good hearing. An album that I definitely suggest to those that want to listen to very good blues / hard rock.
